Just when I was beginning to run low on bright green for my candy cane ripples, look what someone gave me!
I’m doing a HaPpY HaPpY dance, for sure! There’s a full pound of Caron’s “Kelly Green” in the Big skein alone!
But wait, there’s more:
Twenty-eight, yes, Twenty-Eight, three-ounce skeins of Zayre’s 100% DuPont Acrylic yarn!! Had someone planned to make a HUGE blanket? A set of matching sweaters for the kids, perhaps?
A gift of over five pounds of “fisherman” ecru yarn is certainly worthy of a Larger Photo!!
Oh, what fun afghans I have in mind for this! But I think they have to wait until next year…

Although it is surprising how fast I’m going through all the white from that BIG blanket I unraveled.

All that ecru fits into one xerox paper box!
Everyone liked the Black Cherry ripple so much, I’m imagining using deep, rich colors with the ecru. Similar to the way I used brights with white in so many of the candy canes.

Zayre’s???!!!!…. Thats what got me so surprised…lol!!! I haven’t seen or heard about Zayre for close to 30 years in my neck of the woods. Are they still around? Or was this someone’s deep deep buried stash? You sure got lucky with that find!! I always find that color to be soothing..natural…nature. Congrats on your bundles of love!
(still giggling to myself about Zayres. The only memory of that store when I hear that name takes me back to Aug. 1973 buying a pair of plaid wild colored hip hugging bell bottoms to wear for my first day in 6th grade..starting middle school.. Thought I was so cool…lol!!!

Zayre’s was bought out by Ames in the late 80’s, so this yarn is at least twenty years old!
DH worked in the toy department of a Zayre’s store during the 1987 holidays while he was in graduate school. I still remember buying the cheapest rust tie I could find for him, mandatory with his Zayre’s vest. His job consisted of continually picking up toys that were left on the floor and neatening the shelves – and there was the horror of trying to learn how to run a cash register, too! lol.
Oh, My, 1973 – I was a junior in high school. I don’t think I had any plaid pants until college, but I remember some fine vertically striped hip-huggers that I sewed for myself and dark purple velveteen ones I got as a gift! I loved wearing a long crocheted vest with those. Oooooh, we were both cool, I’m sure of it!
I think you will come up with a very beautiful afghan using the ecru,
maybe some dark rich yummy looking colors.
